Red in Black and White

This is Red

This is also Red but a little bit more buff looking

When I bestride him, I soar, I am a hawk: he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; the basest horn of his hoof is more musical than the pipe of Hermes.  ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

Fanally a post :P

Hello everyone! Yes a post, I know - It's been so long. 4th quarter kept me busy but now that it's summer, there is no excuse for me not to blog.

This was my Art final, we had to make artwork inspired by a song, my song was Across the universe by the Beatles which I loosely translated. "Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup" inspire the way thoughts and ideas and, of course, the words that are flowing out of her mind across the universe. and the "images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes" are the white and black shapes, the rest I got from the feeling of the song. I used acrylic paint.

This is a very recent picture (yesterday) I drew of my parakeet, Abotty.
(He's even more adorable in real life!)

This picture I drew pretty much at the beginning of the school year, we had to draw those 3d shape - cylinders, cubes, spheres, and triangular things - all stacked up on top of each other with the light source coming from the top. I decided to make the shapes into something to make it more interesting and I really like the way it turned out. :)

Paper

So guess what our art assignment was? We had to make something out of paper, like paper is the material we make it out of, not just drawing on paper. I got really excited about this one, my art teacher gave me a book to use, it took me a long time to make this, but it was a lot of fun, I actually would love to do something like this again. Technically, this isn't due till next Friday, go figure that art is the only subject I don't procrastinate in. Oh, I think i have algebra homework to do.... meh.

Ok, I know what your thinking, "Whats with the cat? Why is there a cat? Usually birds and butterflies are associated with flowers" Well to answer those questions: I do not know, I was working on flowers and stuff and  then somehow I decided  'I'm going to make a cat now' and before I knew it, I was making a cat. I don't own a cat, I'm not even a cat person, I own a bird, but I can't explain my creative impulses, they do what they want.

See, he's like a jungle cat, his name is Raul.

As you may have noticed, I have not posted in a while, that's because I was having a little artist block, it's pretty much over now, you can expect posts more often.

Back to Doing What I Do Best...

... Riding

I made this blog with the intention of putting mostly artwork that I draw or paint or whatever. But really, there is no possible way for me to have a blog and not post about riding. You see, although I love art, my truest passion is horseback riding, and it always has been sense I was 4 years old. I haven't ridden in almost 2 years, it feels so good to be back in the saddle. The horse I'm riding? His name is Red (obviously because he is red of course), the camera, although it is really good, new camera, does him no justice, he is gorgeous. His coat is redder in person and soft, he's really muscular, has to be at least 16 hands, maybe taller, he's a thoroughbred gelding, and is built like a perfect hunter horse (hunter is the style I ride). He kind of has a bouncy canter, but that's cool. He was kinda slow sometimes and he reminded me of Dandee (the horse I rode in Washington).

I was expecting to be a bit rusty after the 2 years of equine sobriety, but I wasn't exactly anticipating just how out of shape I was, I was literally huffing after cantering, I mean, I had to catch my breath. Despite the common misunderstandings, riding gives you quite a work out.

And my little sister Julia rides aswell! She is riding an adorable little pony named Luke.

Mike is a really good trainer who actually knows what he's talking about. I'm excited to be starting riding lessons with him!

Happy Spring!

It has been absolutely beautiful weather lately. Its great to just go outside all day and, you know, blow bubbles, read, draw, hula-hoop, go for a walk, basically just hang out outside while you blast music inside so you can hear it outside (and so can your neighbors). I wish everyday could be like today.
The sketchbook I'm using is one my aunt Beth  gave to me last week for Christmas........
She just sent out her Christmas presents, which is fine with me because it's fun opening presents in March, in fact, we should have a lot more present-giving holidays, don't you think?  Anyway, here are some other things I drew in the sketchbook. (thanks Beth)

Just a doodle of a robot relaxing under a tree on his day off, and I am a strong believer that even robots should get days off.  :P

I was sitting in the Art room at school and I didn't know what to draw, I lacked inspiration and was just staring at the blank page. Then Gracia randomly took my pencil and drew glasses in the middle of the paper. So i drew the eyes and the head and hair and everything else: all inspired by the glasses, (she's a crazy artist lady) and Gracia named her Susi. It was a team effort.

BTW: I'm going to start riding lessons again on Thursday!!! I'm soooo excited!!!!!

IF: Propagate

If you guessed Zombies, then you really know me!! However, zombie bunnies in a garden chasing rodents was not so far off. However, i was a little late, this was last weeks Illustration Friday topic, but that's because I procrastinated. Oh well. Anyway, the basic idea is that the Zombies spread because they infect other people and make them zombies too. BRAINNNNSSSS

Let there be Light!

I got the idea from and Art teacher when I went to this Electives fair at my school where we go to different classes to pick which ones we wanted to take next year. I already knew I wanted to take art 2 so I went to the art room, and Mr. Adams (said teacher) talking about what they do in art 2, told us about drawing with white pencil on black paper - so instead of drawing in the shading, your drawing the light. I thought this was a pretty cool idea, and I wanted to try it out. Unfortunately I didn't have the black paper and white pencil required for this, but I did have a black chalk board with white chalk (or, more like my sister did) so, I decided to go with something pretty simple, just an apple. It wasn't actually as hard as I thought it was going to be, but that could be because I just drew a simple little apple. I'm probably going to do more of these later on.

Btw, incase you were wondering, I am going to participate in Illustration Friday this week. The subject is propagate.  If you do not know the meaning of this word, let me enlighten you:
Propagate:
  • To spread from person to person;
  • To cause to increase in number or amount.
  • To grow
What am I drawing for this? You guess:
Is it:
a) Bunnies
b) A garden
c) Zombies
d) Rodents

Doodles

You know where you can find some really interesting artwork? On the side of people's homework. You know, when your in class and your bio teacher is boring you and you start zoning out so you mindlessly doodle on the side of your paper and voila! A masterpiece revealing your innermost thoughts, desires, imagination or lack-of is created before your very unconsecrated, glazed eyes. Shamefully most of these works of art are thrown out in the garbage, or for the environmentally conscious, in the recycling - never to be seen again. :( But fortunately I, queen of doodling-in-class, saved a few of my works of art to share with all of you lucky people today :P

This is one created in Spanish, it started out as a couple swirls, then a couple more, then... well... it's hard to explain my thinking process during this because for the most part I think there was none. But it's pretty!

Again in Spanish. They're pretty robot-like figures. I start with any random shape and build on it. Voy al clase de espanol y dibujar todo el dia, pero todavia aprender mucho.

This is in biology, the most boring class ever - this picture is actually really small in real life, but I cropped it and stuff. I guess this is a house in the country on a stormy day.

This guy was created in English class - I was really tired that day and its my last class of the day so I just wanted to get it over with so I could go home. I really just started drawing something that ended up being an eye, then  pop - there's a nose then another soulless, zombie-like eye, then everything else kinda followed and I realized it really kinda matched my mood at the moment.

This I made today because I was bored in English after I finished the test early. Pretty, simple, and colorful. I was this close to throwing them in the recycling (that's right, i'm one of the environmentally conscious ones) but then I thought - nahh! I'll just post them on my blog and then I'll throw them in the recycling.

IF-Clumsy

This week's Illustration Friday topic is Clumsy

This rider was clumsy and forgot his equitation, he didn't ride his horse to the jump correctly, it seems like he didn't ride his horse at a straight line to the jump and  probably forgot to count his strides and his horse was a couple strides off so when the horse got up to the jump he refused. Now, the rider could have stayed on if he hadn't gotten up in his two-point too early and neglected to keep his heels down. He also didn't let go of the reins when he fell over the horse's head. But you know, it was probably just a fluke, I mean he is in a pretty high rated show, so its probably not like he's a bad rider... just this one time he very inconveniently messed up today, it happens to us all, not necessarily resulting in this, but  we all mess up our equitation once and a while, but I'm sure he'll be extra careful next time.

Reading Chair

For my art class homework assignment we're supposed to draw a chair from observation. Seemed kind of odd, I'm so used to her being so vague about our assignments like: Draw something using inspiration from this word/phrase or this wrapper or this peice of chocolate and then leaving the rest up to us. But yesterday she said: draw a chair in your house from observation with pencil. I'm like, atleast I don't have to spend so much time thinking about what to draw, and It wasn't hard to pick which chair I was going to draw. Its the chair i spend hours reading in. :)

The Cold Blooded Murder of the Jack in the Box

So this just started out as a square that turned into a box... then it was a jack in the box... then, while jack thought he was safe tucked away in his little box, waiting to pounce at the next victim who dared turn the handle and that played the song and opens the top of the box for him to spring, the teddy bear took the spear and through it and it pierced right through the box and skewered poor Jack!
